Kryptonite

We all have our kryptonite, right? Something that just tests your resolve. I think I may have more than one, but one of my biggest is...

Targets Dollar Spot!! They have so many fun, cute, practical items.

My husband and I went into Target the other morning for, of course, "just one thing". Please tell me I am not the only one who walks into Target muttering those words...

I bought a few things for lunches and a few things for the 14 Days of Love.

In the above photo, I found some cute owl sandwich sized bags. Harmony is a huge owl fan so these will be fun. The pink, green & blue items that are shaped like bread...those are sandwich stampers. They can also be used for toast. The polka dot and the other one (what shape is that?) are reusable sandwich bags! Each has 3 in a pack. Love these!

It can be hard to find the boys fun little items for the 14 days of Love. Harmony is easy...lip gloss, lotions, bath soaps, fun pens & pencils...I found these Star Wars erasers that they will love. They are big and heavy. Sometimes I like to sneak things in their lunch bags, little surprises, but I have to be careful. I don't want to give them a toy that they might sit and play with at school. So school supplies are perfect. The R2D2 is a "water bag". I have no idea what the official name of these are but...I could only find ONE, that was Star Wars. There were plenty that matched the reusable bags but only one Star Wars. I am so going to be on the lookout, or my other boys are not going to be happy!

These fun food picks (which is an awful picture, so I will be very impressed if you can actually tell what they are!) But they are hearts and mustaches. Can't wait to put these in a Valentine themed lunch.

Do you have the same addiction, problem, love for the dollar spot? Have you found anything fun lately?

right and wrong

You know there is a right way and a wrong way to use coupons right? Right?! Well there is.

When people talk to me about couponing, I usually hear something like, "well I use coupons all the time but I never save very much. What am I doing wrong?"

After interrogating asking nicely, I usually find out that the problem is that they bought something because they HAD a coupon. For example, I had a coupon for X brand of cereal so I got it. Not I waited until the cereal was on sale and THEN used my coupon.

Yeah, no. The only best time to use a coupon is when the item is on SALE. We don't just buy something because we have a coupon right? We
wait until it is a good deal. By waiting until it is on sale, and then pairing with a coupon, we are getting double the discount. Make sense?

Today my soon to be 12 yr old learned this the hard way. While at Target, she was flipping through my file and noticed that I had coupons good off of Lego sets and a Paper Jamz. She asked if she could go look in the toy section while I finished what I was doing. I said sure and off she went...

When I went and found her, she had a stack of Lego's and a Paper Jamz. Our conversation went something like this...
" uhm what you got there little lady?"
"These are the toys that go with the coupons."-Harmony
" Wait, how much are these?"
"I don't know. But you have a coupon for all of them."
"OK Harmony that Lego set is almost $50. Taking $3 off a $50 set is not what I consider a good deal."
"But you have a coupon and it expires on Monday. You wouldn't want to waste the printer ink that you used to print off the coupon would you?"
"Put those toys back right now. I will deal with the .01 waste of printer ink."
Eye roll, sigh, and stomping off to put things away..."well can I at least get a pack of gum?"
"Sure, the one that is on clearance."
"Mom, you are so UNFAIR!!"

Life lessons. Ugh. Do you ever deal with these kinds of issues? Do your spouse/kids/friends ever try to get you to buy something just because you have a coupon?

Game on!

Ever since Harmony was a little girl, every time the holiday ads would come out, she would look through them for hours. She would take a stack of them everywhere she went. By the time I was able to throw them out, they were in sad shape.

And now, years later, all my kids are doing it. They love that I get more than one Sunday paper so that they can each have their own copy!

Well I look at a lot of ads and can I just tell you, I don't remember Easter baskets being that big of a deal. Is that just me? From what I remember, we got a new Sunday outfit and a basket of candy.

Now it's crazy how much stuff they have!

This is a long story short but, my whole point is, I loved getting toy coupons in the paper the other day!! Coupons with a great sale is the perfect score right?

Target had a variety of different games on sale that matched up.

My other favorite was the coupon for $5/1 Littlest Pet Shop Blythe doll. These were $10 minus the coupon. Netting a $5 LPS. Even though my daughter is almost 12 she still loves 'em.

got soap?

As a Mom of five, I do a lot of laundry and dishes. ALOT.

So when I see a good deal on dishwasher detergent (or laundry soap) I stock up!

While at Vons one night, I noticed that Finish starter kits were on sale for $4.99. But guess what? There were $3/1 coupons right next to them. $2 for soap, not bad right? I grabbed a couple and was happy.

But then...

I went to Target. On one of the lovely end caps, was the same item. However, there's were priced at $4.32. Wheels start turning. $4.32-3.00= $1.32 for detergent!! But I had to get my grubby hands on some more coupons.

I walked into Vons, went over to the aisle, grabbed a bunch (there were 3 stacks left) and walked out. I went to Target and grabbed 8 Finish starter kits. I was giddy! I still had coupons left but that was all they had on the end cap.
Yesterday while at Target (yes I shop a lot) I noticed that there were more! Only 5 but hey, I will take what I can get.

I am so very excited with my deal! Not excited about actually doing dishes, but at least I know it didn't cost me very much!

Have you had any good scores lately? I would love to hear about them!

Do you have a Dora fan?

I think all kids love Dora right? Well, at least the younger ones. (: Some kids are too old for Dora.

Right now, my second home, oh I mean Target, has fabulous coupons that you can print from their site. While some are manufacturer coupons, most are Target store coupons. Target allows you to use their store coupons and "stack" it with a manufacturer coupon. It is a great way to save!

Anyway head on over to Target to print off a $3/1 book, movie or Dora toy. You can find Dora movies for $5 (we bought Dora Saves the Day, next to the registers.Other toys are on sale for $5.99.

Head on over to one of my FAVORITE sites, to see a TON of Target match ups.

Target trip for the week

OK I actually bought more than this. BUT, it was all in the 75% off toy clearance aisle. So it is safely hidden until December.

However, all the items shown? A grand total of...$7. Thank you! Awesome trip. I still have to hit Vons today but that is what I have done so far! How have you done on your trips this week?

(image taken from Targets website)

Do you like free items?

Do you like Target?

Well, right now if you like Rayovac on Facebook, you can print off a coupon for $1/1! A 4 pk of batteries in their dollar spot is...a dollar! Gotta love free!

Also, Target has Post It notes on sale for $1. Right now you can print off a $1/1 coupon which makes them free!

You can click on this link to print the Post It coupon. BTW- this coupon doesn't have a print limit. Some do, some don't. Technically you can print off as many as you want, but try to save some for others! (:
